Orthopedics

Orthopedics is a medical specialty that focuses on the diagnosis, correction, prevention, and treatment of patients with skeletal deformities – disorders of the bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves and skin. These elements make up the musculoskeletal system.

Orthopedics is the medical specialty that focuses on injuries and diseases of your body’s musculoskeletal system. This complex system, which includes your bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves, allows you to move, work, and be active.

The physicians who specialize in this area are called orthopedic surgeons or orthopedists. Your body’s musculoskeletal system is a complex system of bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves and allows you to move, work and be active. Once devoted to the care of children with spine and limb deformities, orthopedics now cares for patients of all ages, from newborns with clubfeet, to young athletes requiring arthroscopic surgery, to older people with arthritis.

Wrist Fractures

The wrist encloses two forearm bones -the radius and the ulna. The most common fracture to the wrist occurs to the distal radius, the end of the larger of the two arm bones at the thumb-side of the wrist. Distal radius fractures generally happen about one inch from the end of the radius.  It is prone to injury when you fall on an outstretched hand or if there you have low bone density or osteoporosis. The injury causes pain, swelling, and bruising and can create a deformed appearance to the wrist.

Heel Pain

The foot has more than 30 different joints. If you consider the tons of stress your feet endure from walking and standing day in and day out, it’s a wonder everyone doesn’t suffer from some sort of heel pain, which is the most general problem affecting the foot and ankle.

Ankle Fracture

An ankle fracture, also known as a broken ankle, is most usually caused by the ankle twisting or rolling from tripping, falling, or an impact from an accident. Two joints are involved in ankle fractures, the ankle joint where the tibia, fibula, and talus meet, and the syndesmosis joint, the joint between the tibia and fibula.

MCL Injuries

The medial collateral ligament (MCL) runs along the inner side of the knee to attach the bottom of the thighbone to the top of the shinbone and give stability and strength to the inner side of the knee joint. A blow to the outside of the knee may cause injury to the MCL, resulting in a stretch or tear to the ligament. These types of injuries are general in contact sports.

Chronic shoulder pain

Severe shoulder arthritis and chronic shoulder pain can make daily-life activities, like combing hair, reaching for a lamp or putting on a sweater extremely hard. If you can’t do the simple things you once did, you may be suffering from a shoulder situation. There are reliable solutions for chronic shoulder pain. It is important to learn about your options in order to make the best decision for you.

Elbow fracture

Elbow fractures may result from a fall, a direct impact to the elbow, or a twisting injury to the arm. Sprains, strains or dislocations may happen at the same time as a fracture. X-rays are used to a fracture is present and if the bones are out of place. Sometimes a CT (Computed Tomography) scan might be needed for further detail.
